The QueensWay Ride

The QueensWay Ride

Saturday, May 19, 2012 - 11:15am

Riders from Manhattan: leave 9:30 am, Union Square North @ Park Av; 11am Shalimar Diner, Austin and 63rd Dr., Rego Park, Queens.

All riders: leave 11:15am Shalimar Diner, Austin and 63rd Drive, Rego Park, Queens.

Join Friends of the QueensWay, Transportation Alternatives' Queens Volunteer Committee, and 5BBC in a Bike Month celebration ride from Rego Park to Ozone Park in honor of the future route of The QueensWay: the proposed bikeway, linear park, and rail trail atop the abandoned Rockaway Beach Branch railroad right-of-way. The ride will include several stops with brief hikes onto the rail right-of-way. For those looking for a longer ride some of us will continue South to the Rockaways Boardwalk.

Leisurely pace. Children should be on bikes with 16" wheels or larger to be able to stay with group and generally be accompanied by an adult. A waiver is also required. Learn more here: http://www.5bbc.org/aboutrides.shtml

Roundtrip for Manhattan Riders: ~28 miles (though can hop the A train from near the Way's end to head back to Manhattan) - longer of course if you continue on to the Rockaways.

Roundtrip for Queens Riders: ~14 miles

Bring: Helmet (required), water, snack, good shoes/boots that work with your bike and are also good for light hiking on uneven terrain.

Canceled in the event of heavy rain.
